GUWAHATI: The Department of Chemistry at Cotton University successfully organized the International Conference on Innovation and Advances in Chemical Sciences (IACS-2025) recently, bringing together leading scientists, technologists, and young researchers from across the country. The event provided a platform to discuss recent advancements in chemical sciences and explore emerging research frontiers.

Eminent academicians, including Prof. Thavendran Govender from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, and Prof. Bill Jones from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, delivered insightful plenary lectures. Several invited speakers from various institutions across India also contributed to the discussions, making the conference a rich exchange of knowledge and ideas.

The two-day event witnessed participation from nearly 200 attendees, including researchers, academicians, and college teachers from different institutions across Assam. It featured twelve technical sessions, some of which were held in parallel across multiple venues at the university.

The inaugural session was graced by Mr. Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan, Managing Director of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), as the chief guest, alongside Cotton University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Ch. Deka and Registrar Dr. Arindam Garg.

The conference was convened by Dr. Kamal K. Rajbongshi, Dr. Anshuman Gogoi, Dr. Basanta Kr. Rajbongshi, Dr. Abdul Wahab, and Dr. Ankur Guha, while Prof. Mausumi Ganguly, Head of the Department of Chemistry, served as the President of IACS-2025. The inaugural and valedictory sessions were hosted by Dr. Sayanika Dutta, while Dr. Muktikam Hajarika coordinated the cultural programme.

The event successfully fostered collaboration among experts in the field and provided a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing and innovation in chemical sciences.
