Guwahati: A retired college vice-principal and his wife were killed, and their teenage daughter was critically injured, in a tragic road accident on Wednesday morning at Khetri along National Highway 27 while travelling from Mangaldai to Guwahati. The victims have been identified as Gajendra Mohan Dev Sharma, retired vice-principal of Raha College, and his wife. Their daughter, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to hospital.

According to police, the family was travelling from Guwahati towards Jagiroad in a Maruti S-Cross (AS 01 ET 2351) when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which rammed into a tree on the highway divider. The accident is suspected to have been caused by slippery road conditions following heavy overnight rain. Locals and police personnel rescued the injured girl from the mangled car, while efforts were on to recover the bodies of the deceased.
