GUWAHATI: In a major victory against cybercrime, the Cyber Police Station (Cyber PS) in Guwahati successfully recovered Rs 90,837 from a victim of the "digital arrest" scam.

This recovery represents a significant step in the ongoing fight against cyber fraudsters who manipulate fear and deception to extort money from unsuspecting individuals.

The victim had initially lost a hefty sum of Rs 48,40,844 after scammers, posing as law enforcement officials, convinced them they were under investigation for serious offenses. The fraudsters demanded immediate payment to prevent legal consequences.

The Cyber PS, known for its proactive stance against cybercrime, used advanced tracking tools and coordinated with banks to trace the stolen funds. Through diligent investigation and perseverance, the team managed to recover a portion of the money and return it to the victim.

This operation highlights the growing sophistication of cybercrime and the critical need for increased awareness and vigilance from both individuals and law enforcement. As technology advances, so do the tactics of cybercriminals.

Additionally, the recent arrest of two Assam-based individuals by Punjab Police, involved in similar digital arrest scams, underscores the widespread nature of this threat.

The Cyber PS in Guwahati urges the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities immediately. By working together, we can effectively fight cybercrime and safeguard ourselves from falling prey to such malicious schemes.
