
GUWAHATI: The Women’s Cell of Dispur College, under the guidance of Principal Dr. Navajyoti Borah, celebrated International Women’s Day, 2025, at its Pratima Barua Pandey (PBP) auditorium on Saturday. The programme which was coordinated by Dr. Monalisa Bhattacharya, Convenor, Women’s Cell, Dispur College, started with a formal session that was graced by the esteemed presence of Guests of Honour, Dr. Madhumita Saikia, woman entrepreneur and Principal, Signature Institute, and Binita Devi, noted folklore scholar and recipient of Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Purashkar, 2022.
In his welcome address, Principal, Dispur College, Dr. Borah extended his best wishes to all women on the occasion and said that it is only through the education and empowerment of each and every woman that we could lead the society forward. Guest of honour, Dr. Madhumita Saikia, urged all women to prioritize their financial independence before everything else and to fight for their right to property. Binita Devi similarly motivated students to break all barriers and stereotypes and never deter from following their passions and dreams. She further enlightened everyone regarding how puppetry as an art form has been largely a male-dominated area and how the new generation needs to come forward to break gender conventions, stated a press release.
