
GUWAHATI: The Indian Association of Women Veterinarians (Assam Chapter) and College of Veterinary Science, AAU, Khanapara, in collaboration with Sarathi Gosthi, Uttarkhula gaon, Dharamtul, and Morigaon, celebrated International Women’s Day by organizing an extension camp with the theme “Accelerating Action” at the Bangal Dhara LP School premises, Morigaon Station Road.
The president of the Indian Association of Women Veterinarians, Dr. Munmun Sarma, delivered the welcome speech and apprised the women farmers about the importance of scientific rearing of animals and birds, timely vaccination, and hygienic husbandry practices. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Bula Das, professor and senior executive member.
In the meeting, Debnath Manta, Retd. Principal of Dharamtol Higher Secondary School, acted as chief guest; Dr. Haricharan Nath, VO, Morigaon, and Chenimai Bordoloi, Retd. Teacher of Silchang High School, were the guests of honour. The Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, AAU, Khanapara, Dr. Bibekananda Saikia, addressed the lady farmers and wished them a happy International Women’s Day 2025 and encouraged them to adopt scientific livestock and poultry farming for the socio-economic upliftment of rural folk.
Sir urged the lady farmers to take the lead in backyard farming and expressed that if women are involved in farming activities, there will definitely be grand success. Three resource persons, viz., Dr. Deepa Lahkar, Dr. Ilakshy Deka, and Dr. Sangeeta Das, delivered lectures on different topics on scientific livestock and poultry farming. Again, the association also handed over 1000 doses each of duck plague and Ranikhet disease vaccines to the District Veterinary Officer, Morigaon, for immunization of poultry against these infectious diseases, stated a press release.
