
GUWAHATI: Down Town Hospital, a premier multispecialty corporate hospital in Guwahati, celebrated its 36th anniversary with a series of events, culminating in the 33rd Public Oration & Award function on February 15, 2025. The event was held at ITA Machkhowa, Guwahati, and was attended by esteemed guests, doctors, and staff members.
The celebrations began with the inauguration of the 66th edition of the Down Town Newsletter, followed by the 36th-anniversary function at the hospital auditorium. The event also included a two-day mega health mela, which provided an opportunity for the public to interact with doctors and healthcare professionals.
The 33rd Public Oration was delivered by Dr. Shantala Hegde, Additional Professor & Consultant Neuropsychologist at NIMHANS, Bengaluru, on the topic "Music and Health." Dr. Hegde's enlightening speech explored the transformative impact of music on mental and neurological well-being, highlighting its application in treating cognitive disorders, anxiety, depression, and neurological conditions.
The event also included the conferment of awards to exemplary doctors from the North East Region. Prof. Dr. Ratna Talukdar was awarded the "Award for Excellence in Medicine - 2025" for her outstanding contributions to the medical profession. The Prof. Jogesh Mahanta Memorial Award and the Prof. Pratul Goswami Memorial Award were also conferred upon Dr. Sasanka Kumar Barua and Dr. Saurabh Borkotoki, respectively, for their exemplary contributions to the medical field.
