GUWAHATI: A large group of e-rickshaw drivers took to the streets of Guwahati on Tuesday, protesting against the Regional Transport Authority's (RTA) decision to restrict their operations on 56 roads across the city. The drivers, who were opposing the ban, staged a protest near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and submitted a memorandum to the transport department, seeking official intervention.

The protest turned intense when the drivers attempted to march from ISBT to the transport department's office but were stopped by police and security personnel. In response, the drivers staged a sit-in demonstration at the protest site. Later, officials from the transport department arrived and held discussions with the protesting drivers, following which a delegation of e-rickshaw drivers proceeded to the transport department office to formally submit their demands.

The All Assam E-Rickshaw Drivers' Union criticized the transport department and district administration for unfairly blaming e-rickshaws for the city's traffic congestion. They argued that targeting e-rickshaw drivers alone would not effectively resolve urban transport issues.
