
GUWAHATI: A five-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Indian Knowledge System is underway at Cotton University from Monday. The programme is being organized by the Department of Education in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the varsity. Organized in blended mode, the FDP aims to acquaint participants with the rich Indian knowledge system.
The FDP began today with an inaugural session which was graced by Vice Chancellor of Cotton University and Chief Advisor of the programme Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, invited speaker and faculty member of the Dept of Sanskrit, Gauhati University, Prof. Jagadish Sarma, Director (i/c) of the IQAC and Advisor of the Organizing Committee Dr. Hiren Deka and Head of the Department of Education and Convenor of the programme Dr. Phunu Das Sarma.
In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor of Cotton University Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka emphasized the importance of studying the rich Indian knowledge system. He highlighted that India boasts of a rich heritage that needs to be preserved and studied. This indigenous knowledge could successfully be applied to different modern day problems, he added.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof Jagadish Sarma from the Department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University. He gave an overview of the core philosophy of the Indian Knowledge System, its objectives and characteristics, the different theoretical and vocational disciplines within the indigenous knowledge system etc. He also highlighted different aspects such as self realization, karma, life management, commitment to work etc. that could be achieved through application of our indigenous knowledge system, stated a press release.
