
GUWAHATI: A week-long National Festival of Music & Dance under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India was held at Shilpgram NEZCC. Here, separate cultural Zonal centres of India were invited namely Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Punjab and the host NE Zone especially Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland & Assam represented by different folk cultural troupes and ethnic groups by North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur (an autonomous body under Ministry of Culture).
The whole event was held under the able leadership and guidance of Prashanna Gogoi, Director of NEZCC. A special felicitation programme was held with a host of dignitaries, including Dr. Gautam Nayak (Ex-HOD Prof. Dept. of ENT & Head and Neck Surgery, GMCH), Sushil Tamuli, CMD Radiant International School alongside others. The festival consisted of a combined cultural show representing various states of India i.e. 'Colours of India' which was directed by Director NEZCC & Rajesh Boro along with a Musical Ensemble by Sri Dilip Hira (renowned flutist) and fellow artistes.
Another major special attraction was the rich traditional cultural presentation of the indigenous 'Kaibarta-Jalkeot' community (Undivided Kamrup) by "Kaibarta Dhulia Dol, Axom". This culture was almost on the verge of extinction due to social neglect and apathy, but has been revived and standardized to a national-level platform by this cultural troupe in recent times, a press release said.
