GUWAHATI: A major fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in Guwahati’s Odalbakra area, near the Savitri Bharali School, resulting in significant property damage. The blaze, which is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a commercial establishment, sparked panic among local residents. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing parts of the property before emergency services could arrive. Many locals voiced their frustration over what they described as a delayed response from the rescue teams. “The rescue team was late in arriving and as a result, severe damage has been caused,” stated one bystander.
The Fire and Emergency Service Station confirmed that five fire tenders were dispatched following a distress call received around 2:15 pm. Fire department officials reported that the situation was brought under control through coordinated efforts, and a preliminary investigation is now underway.
The fire was contained before it could reach nearby residential areas. However, the full extent of the property damage is still being assessed.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, with initial findings pointing to a short circuit.
