Guwahati: Foreign cigarettes seized; 3 arrested in city

Guwahati: In a major crackdown, a team from Basistha Police Station intercepted a white Maruti Suzuki Swift (ML05AB3790) at Balughat, Guwahati, acting on credible input during an ongoing investigation.

Three habitual smugglers from Bihar, Raj Kumar Yadav (43) and Ajoy Kumar (41) of Samastipur, along with Ram Gyan Ram (30) of Gaya, were arrested. Police recovered 166 packets of Benson & Hedges Blue Gold cigarettes (made in Turkey), Rs 1,20,300 in cash, multiple Android mobile phones, and the vehicle used in the crime. Legal action has been initiated, and further investigation is underway. In a separate operation, a team from Maligaon Outpost raided the shop of Kumari Thapa (43) in Garobasti and seized 152 bottles of illegal liquor. The seizure included bottles of different liquor brands. Legal proceedings have been initiated in this case as well.
