GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident, Kabita Deka, the former Director of the Handloom and Textile Department, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her residence in the Jalukbari area on Thursday. According to sources, Deka’s body was recovered from her residence on Sudhakantha Path early this morning.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. The police team has reached the incident site and is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of death. The body was sent to GMCH for a post-mortem.

Deka was reportedly accused in a case under the Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (CM’s SVC) related to corruption allegations in the Handloom and Textile Department. A raid was conducted at her residence in Jalukbari last month as part of the investigation into irregularities in appointments made during 2019-20. The investigation centres on a scam involving six positions, with claims of irregularities in the hiring process.
