GUWAHATI: The Guwahati mayor Mrigen Sarania announced several key initiatives and developments at a press conference at the GMC conference hall, with the aim of enhancing the city’s infrastructure, services, and quality of life. The mayor informed that a house numbering survey is currently underway in various wards, conducted by GMC’s authorized service provider, Geo Vista, at zero cost to residents. Additionally, the Guwahati Swachhta Abhiyan is ongoing, focusing on cleaning lanes and bye-lanes, as well as collecting feedback from citizens.

To address environmental concerns, the GMC has taken steps to clean the Bharalu River and tackle air pollution, procuring sweeping machines, water sprinklers, and EV garbage vehicles. The mayor also emphasized the need for re-assessment of property and encouraged residents to pay property tax on time and renew trade licenses.

The GMC has enabled the instant generation of holding numbers and trade licenses on its website and has engaged tax collectors and Pouro Sakhis for manual tax collection. The Corporation has also made significant progress in infrastructure development, constructing roads, drains, stormwater sewers, public toilets, community halls, and crematory grounds.

Other notable initiatives include the construction of three big markets at Ganeshguri, Ulubari, and Beltola, and the declaration of 17 vending zones for street vendors. The Corporation is also funding the redevelopment of Ganeshguri Junction and has launched a free mortuary van service, Mukti Rath, along with briquettes for cremation.

To address urban flooding, the GMC has launched Mission Flood Free, aiming to clean 400 drains and five rivers, and has engaged super suckers for de-silting main roads. The Corporation has also been awarded Rs. 150 crore under the CITIS 2.0 initiative and has developed several waste management facilities, including the Swachhta Kshetra at Belortol and Boragaon.

Lastly, the Mayor announced that GMC is providing a subsidy of Rs. 7,000 for existing consumers and ration card holders to avail themselves of Guwahati Jal Board water supply connections, with forms available at all ward councillors’ offices.
