Guwahati: The Health Branch of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted a surprise inspection at a hotel on August 1, uncovering multiple violations of hygiene and safety norms. The inspection was led by Assistant Commissioner Trishanu Bipul Borah and Executive Officer Gitanjali Pathak.
Following the inspection, the GMC imposed an on-the-spot penalty of Rs 150,000 on the hotel for non-compliance with health and sanitation regulations. The violations, according to officials, posed a significant risk to public health.
“The GMC will not compromise on the hygiene and safety of Guwahati’s citizens,” said a senior official. “Such inspections will continue to ensure that all commercial establishments adhere to the mandated standards.”
The civic body has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict surveillance over food and hospitality establishments in the city, warning that similar action will be taken against any outlet found flouting the rules. This action forms part of GMC’s broader campaign to improve public health and ensure accountability across commercial enterprises in the city.
