Guwahati: A green bus traveling from Jalukbari to Khanapara met with an accident on Thursday after suffering a brake failure on the Lachit Nagar Flyover. The vehicle veered out of control and rammed into a roadside pole at the end of the flyover, causing panic among passengers but resulting in no injuries.

According to officials on the scene, the incident occurred around mid-morning. “The brakes of the vehicle reportedly stopped working, and the driver lost control. The vehicle then hit the pole at the end of the flyover. Luckily there is no casualty,” said a traffic police officer present at the site. “We arranged for a crane to tow the bus away, but that did not work. So we have called for a larger crane.”

The conductor of the bus confirmed the mechanical failure and added, “We tried our best to avoid the accident but couldn’t. It is fortunate that nothing happened to the passengers.”

The accident caused temporary traffic disruptions in the area, already dealing with congestion due to waterlogging from early morning rainfall. Authorities worked to manage the flow of vehicles until an alternative towing arrangement could be made.

Though the Green Bus service has been appreciated by commuters for its comfort and eco-friendly design, recent incidents involving mechanical failures have sparked concerns over maintenance and public safety.
