Guwahati: The NSS Cell of Gauhati University organized a free health check-up camp at the Old Age Home “Amar Ghar” in Patharquary, Guwahati, in collaboration with Medicity Aditya and Sankara Netralaya, Guwahati.
Inaugurating the camp, Dr. Ranjan Kr Kakati, Director of Students’ Welfare and NSS Programme Coordinator, Gauhati University, highlighted the growing prevalence of old age homes due to factors like nuclear families and changing societal values. He emphasized the importance of respecting and valuing elders within families and communities. Dr. Kakati also stressed the need for better support systems for the elderly, noting that old age homes can provide companionship, medical care, daily assistance, and a safe environment.
