Guwahati: The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2025 was observed at the Gauhati University Campus, organized by the GUC NSS Unit. The event, initially scheduled for June 26, was preponed and held on June 25 due to academic engagements. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Utpal Sarma, Registrar of Gauhati University, who emphasized the importance of youth-led awareness to combat the growing threat of drug abuse. Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakoti, NSS Coordinator of GU, encouraged students to be proactive in spreading awareness and building a drug-free campus environment. Prof. Tulsi Bezbaruah, Director of GUIST, graced the occasion and shared his insights on the social impact of substance abuse, highlighting the need for early intervention and education.

The resource person, Mr. P.N. Jha, Intelligence Officer, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Guwahati, delivered a in-depth and informative session on the current drug scenario in the region, the role of NCB in enforcement and prevention, and the legal and social consequences of drug trafficking and abuse. He urged students to remain vigilant and contribute actively as informed citizens in the fight against drugs. Dr. Rituparna Borah, Programme Officer of the GUC NSS Unit, welcomed the gathering and coordinated the program. Around 120 NSS volunteers and students attended the programme took pledge to spread awareness and stand against drug abuse in their communities.
