Guwahati: The government has ordered health checkups for cook-cum-helpers under the PM-POSHAN scheme across the state. In this regard, the Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) and the State Nodal Officer of PM-POSHAN Assam, Om Prakash, have requested the Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, to arrange health checkup camps. The NHM Mission Director has already instructed the district Joint Directors of Health Services-cum-Member Secretaries of NHM, Assam to arrange the camps. These will be bi-annual health checkups for the cook-cum-helpers.

In a letter from the NHM Mission Director to the district Joint Directors, it was mentioned, “A bi-annual health checkup for 1,07,329 cook-cum-helpers under the PM-POSHAN scheme will be conducted across all 33 districts. Seven tests have been identified for each cook-cum-helper. The tests will be conducted at the district or sub-district hospital level. The seven tests are: complete blood test, typhoid test, blood sugar test, stool for ova and cyst, sputum/PUS test, test for cholera and other common bacterial infections, and hepatitis A & E tests.”

Accordingly, all the Joint Directors have been asked to arrange free testing camps and ensure that the hospitals are equipped to carry out the seven designated tests for the cook-cum-helpers.
