Guwahati: Guwahati city is fast emerging as a breeding ground for crime and immoral activities, with frequent reports of such incidents surfacing from various corners of the city. After hotels and spas, home stays have now come under the scanner for allegedly being used as venues for unethical behaviour.
In a recent incident, a home stay located in Flat No. 4 of Block A-15 at Games Village has drawn public and police attention following allegations of prolonged immoral activities. Acting on complaints from local residents, the Basistha Police conducted a late-night raid on Monday, rescuing 11 young men and women who were found in an allegedly indecent state.
According to sources, the residents had long been troubled by loud parties, late-night gatherings, and loud music emanating from the flat. Despite several warnings, the disturbances continued. Frustrated, the residents initially lodged a complaint with the housing society, which then escalated the matter to the police.
Police officials confirmed that the home stay was being operated by the owner of the flat, without informing the housing society. The raid revealed evidence of alcohol consumption and other suspicious items inside the premises.
“A few boys and girls have been coming here for the past few days. They drink the whole night, create disturbances, and even break bottles,” said a neighbour. “We finally forced the door open and found girls and boys in separate rooms, along with liquor bottles and other objectionable items. So far, four girls, five boys, and the person running the home stay have been detained.”
