Jalukbari: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor production, the Excise Department of Kamrup (M) on Sunday busted multiple country-made liquor brewing units in Adinggiri Hills. The operation was part of a sustained drive to curb the production and sale of illicit alcohol in Guwahati. The raid was conducted under the directive of Excise department. The team targeted the Adinggiri, Kalikhola, and Jakoikhola areas, where six illegal brewing units were dismantled.
During the operation, officials seized approximately 3,700 kg of fermented wash, 17 litres of country liquor, 45 kg of fermented cakes used to produce liquor, and seven varieties of liquor brewing equipment. While several individuals managed to escape, one person was apprehended on the spot.
A case has been registered under Section 53(1)(c) of the Assam Excise Act. The arrested individual was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan District and has been remanded to judicial custody.
