GUWAHATI: The Sadou Asom Goria-Moria-Desi Jatiya Parishad (SAGMDJP) convened an extended executive meeting on Saturday in Guwahati. The meeting was followed by a press conference where the organization addressed various concerns and put forth important community demands.

SAGMDJP’s president Nurul Haque highlighted the pressing issues faced by the indigenous Goria, Moria, and Desi communities. He strongly urged the Assam government to complete the already-announced socio-economic survey of these communities before the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. Haque stressed that the data from this survey would be vital for effective policy-making and the overall uplift of the indigenous Muslim community of the state.

In addition to this, the organization demanded the immediate formation of a Desi Development Council to ensure balanced and inclusive development of the Desi community, similar to the focus extended to the Goria and Moria communities. The organization also called for the inclusion of both the Goria and Desi communities in the list of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to provide them with necessary constitutional safeguards and welfare benefits.
