Guwahati: A police jawan serving as the Personal Security Officer (PSO) to the Officer-in-Charge of Geetanagar Police Station has been arrested for allegedly deceiving a young woman by assuming a false identity and eloping with her. The accused, Abdul Basid, was taken into custody on Monday following a joint operation by Geetanagar and Chandmari Police. The case unfolded after the family of the woman, a resident of Chhaygaon and currently living in Chandmari, filed a missing person complaint. Initial investigations revealed that Basid had allegedly misrepresented himself as a Hindu man and maintained a relationship with the woman over an extended period. According to police sources, he concealed crucial information about his real name, religion, and marital status—he is reportedly married and has a daughter. The woman, unaware of his true identity, believed she was in a genuine relationship. It is alleged that Basid used this trust to persuade her to elope with him.
