Guwahati: Responding to the ongoing heatwave and the rising concerns over student health, the Kamrup (M) district administration has revised school timings for secondary-level institutions. The revised schedule will come into effect on August 1. The move aims to strike a balance between continuing academic activities and ensuring the safety of students during extreme weather conditions.
The directive was issued by the District Elementary Education Officer (DEEO)-cum-District Mission Coordinator of the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhijan Mission, Kamrup (Metro). According to the official order, the duration of the school day for High School and Higher Secondary Schools has been extended by 30 minutes. However, the timings for Lower Primary (L.P.) and Middle English (M.E.) schools will remain unchanged.
As per the revised schedule, Lower Primary Schools will continue to function from 7:30 am to 11:30 am, while Middle English Schools will operate from 7:30 am to 12 noon. For High School and Higher Secondary Schools, the day will now be extended by half an hour, with the exact timing to be determined by individual institutions in accordance with the directive.
This revision follows an earlier order issued on June 10, 2025, and will apply to all government and private schools under the jurisdiction of Kamrup Metro. The new schedule will remain in effect until further notice from the administration.
Officials emphasized that the decision was taken keeping in mind both the academic interests and health of students. School authorities, teachers, and parents have been urged to ensure full compliance with the revised schedule and to take all necessary steps to protect children from heat-related health risks.
