Guwahati: In a suspected case of hiring fraud, a luxury Mahindra Scorpio SUV (AS 01 FQ 0969) has gone missing after it was hired for a five-day trip earlier this month. The vehicle was rented on April 1 by a youth identified as Thounaojam Samananda Singh from Manipur, who claimed he intended to tour across Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.

According to sources, the SUV was rented from Rahul Bora, a resident of Guwahati. The vehicle’s last known location was traced near Sonapur Toll Gate on April 5. Shortly after, the GPS tracker installed in the vehicle was allegedly tampered with and removed, raising serious suspicions of foul play.

The suspect has remained untraceable for the past 18 days, following which Bora lodged a formal complaint with the Dispur Police. Authorities now suspect that the incident may be linked to a larger organized gang active in the region.

Police have launched an investigation and are working to trace the missing vehicle and identify any possible accomplices.  Anyone with information about the vehicle or the suspect is requested to contact the local police.
