GUWAHATI: In a major crackdown against illicit activities, Chandmari Police conducted a raid at Prag Academy Building located in Guwahati's Zoo Road area.

The cops apprehended 27-year-old Enjamul Hoque, hailing from Barpeta, and seized four debit cards of different account holders, one Aadhar Card and two mobile phones from his possession.

The interrogation led to the arrest of another two of his associates identified as Shalur Ratna Prakash, aged 45 from Chhattisgarh's Bhilai and 35-year-old Murlidhar Sumith Pillai, also from Bhilai.

The duo were nabbed from Room No. 207 of Hotel Queen Casa located in Kotahbari under Gorchuk Police Station in Guwahati for their involvement in illegal dealing with accounts.

Seven debit cards, two cheque books, one current account cheque book of Small Finance Bank, two Airtel Sim cards of the accounts, two Bandhan Bank blank cheques having different account holders, two flight tickets for Raipur to Guwahati and other objectionable documents with one cancelled cheque along with three mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs. 1000 were confiscated from their possession.

The modus operandi of the fraudsters involved taking access of current accounts of the public illegally and using them to transfer crores of rupees received through illegal gaming apps within a short period of time.

The apprehended trio acted as agents, collecting huge sums of money from illegal online gaming apps. The kingpin of this racket has been identified as Dhiraj, hailing from Patna in Bihar.
