Guwahati: Maligaon Flyover To Be Completed Within 1 Year, Says Assam CM

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on April 17 kicked off his campaign for the upcoming Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections, where he vowed to improve the infrastructure for the people.

The CM promised that the construction of the Maligaon flyover will be completed within a year. He also touched upon the menace of floods in the area and asserted that the state government is fully committed to the water crisis in the flood-hit area.

Himanta also went on to say that the government is taking all possible measures to usher in an era of digital governance.

The CM took to his official Twitter handle to share the roadmap.

Earlier, the Assam Government had announced their decision to construct the state's longest flyover at Maligaon in Guwahati. 

The 2992-metre long flyover from Maligaon towards Kamakhya will be constructed by the Assam Government with a diversion from Maligaon towards Pandu.

The two-lane flyover will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 420.75 crore from State-owned Priority Development (SOPD) fund 2020-21 within 36 months. It is expected that the flyover will reduce the traffic congestion in the city.

On the other hand, the introduction of digital governance will be crucial in improving the efficiency of the government's functioning and will help in taking governance to people's doorsteps.

Meanwhile, The Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) had earlier announced that the GMC elections will be held on April 19, 2022 and the counting of votes will take place on April 21 from 8 am.
