Guwahati Municipal Corporation Carried out Eviction Drive at Uzanbazar

GUWAHATI: A team of Enforcement Branch, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) carried out an eviction drive against illegal street vendors in footpaths and pavements in the Uzanbazar area of Guwahati on July 1.

The eviction drive was carried out by Municipal Secretary & I/C Collector (Enforcement Branch) Aditya Gogoi under the leadership of GMC Commissioner Debashish Sharma.

GMC said that several complaints were registered against the vendors operating in the Uzanbazar area hence the eviction drive was carried out to free the footpaths and pavements from rampant encroachment by vendors and shopkeepers. "Footpaths are only to be used by pedestrians and hence they should be kept free and without any obstruction for the free flow of pedestrian traffic. Keeping this in mind, the Enforcement wing of GMC plans to intensify its eviction drives in upcoming days," the GMC stated.
