GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), in collaboration with Kristi Welfare Organization, conducted an awareness drive on waste segregation and composting of organic waste in Ambikagiri Nagar, Ward 37, under Division-3. As part of its initiative to promote sustainable waste management, similar awareness programs were organized across all 12 wards of Division-3.
The campaign aimed to educate residents on the importance of proper waste disposal, segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, and composting organic waste at the household level.
Officials from GMC and volunteers from Kristi Welfare Organization interacted with the local community, demonstrating effective waste segregation techniques and highlighting the environmental benefits of composting.
A GMC official stated that the initiative is part of the corporation's ongoing efforts to encourage responsible waste management practices and reduce the burden on landfill sites. "Public participation is crucial in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring a greener future for the city," the official added. Residents of Ambikagiri Nagar and other participating wards welcomed the initiative, expressing their willingness to adopt better waste management habits. GMC plans to conduct more such awareness programs in different parts of the city to foster a culture of sustainable waste disposal.
