Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has intensified its cleanliness drive, which was launched on December 14, 2024. This initiative aligns with the Swachhata Abhiyan (Cleanliness Campaign) and aims to improve waste management and sanitation across the city.
The campaign was inaugurated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with cabinet ministers, municipal officials, and representatives from various organizations. The GMC has covered 480 km of daily sweeping and 430 km of daily waste collection as part of this initiative.
Key Achievements of the Cleanliness Drive: • 10,684 citizens participated in the feedback survey.
• 30% of respondents were unaware of GMC’s waste collection services.
• 85% of respondents were satisfied with door-to-door garbage collection.
• 70% of respondents were happy with roadside waste disposal facilities.
To further improve sanitation, the GMC is organizing a special cleanliness awareness campaign from January 30 to February 1, 2025. This drive will involve community engagement, waste management awareness programs, and social initiatives to enhance public participation.
The GMC has urged residents to properly dispose of their household and commercial waste. Citizens can report uncollected garbage or sanitation issues to the corporation for swift action.
Additionally, the GMC has emphasized compliance with occupancy certificate regulations for newly constructed buildings. From February 1 to March 31, 2025, strict measures will be implemented to ensure that all new buildings receive the required occupancy certification before being inhabited.
The Guwahati Municipal Corporation has called on residents, businesses, and organizations to support the campaign by maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings. Officials have assured that strict monitoring and timely intervention will be carried out to sustain the city’s hygiene standards.
