Guwahati: NEHARI, Brahmaputra Board Conduct Five-Day Training Workshop

GUWAHATI: The Brahmaputra Board and the North Eastern Hydraulic and Allied Research Institute (NEHARI), in collaboration with the National Water Academy (NWA), Pune, conducted a five-day training workshop on “Project Management, Project Supervision, and Quality Control” from February 18 to February 22, 2025.

The programme was inaugurated virtually by Sh. D.S. Chaskar, Chief Engineer, NWA, who emphasized the significance of effective project management practices and highlighted the need for continuous capacity building among officials to achieve projects goals efficiently.

The five-day programme comprised comprehensive lectures and hands-on sessions encompassing project management, including project planning techniques such as WBS, bar charts, and CPM, resource levelling, and project monitoring using earned value analysis (EVA). The participants were also trained in hands-on sessions using MS Project for schedule preparation, resource levelling, and report generation. The training also addresses total quality management, safety in construction, construction methodology, equipment planning, cost estimation, contract administration, financial management, cost control, and a case study on anti-erosion project management.

The training programme concluded with a valedictory session chaired by Dr. Ranbir Singh, IAS (Retd.), chairman, Brahmaputra Board. Dr. Ranjit Deka, Director, NEHARI, initiated the session summarising the five-day workshop. During the valedictory address, Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of project management, project supervision, and quality control and its direct impact on organizational performance. A total of 25 participants from various offices of the Brahmaputra Board, Central Water Commission, and Water Resource Department of different states of NE India, like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland, were awarded certificates of successful completion.
