GUWAHATI: In a significant move to bolster the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in Northeast India, the first meeting of the North East India Executive Council of the MSME Promotion Council India (MSMEPCI) was held in Guwahati today. The MSMEPCI aims to support domestic and small enterprises, promote “Make in India,” facilitate MSME loans, and provide free business registration, among other objectives. The council also emphasized the need for focused efforts to empower women, develop rural industries, and boost local production.
The meeting, chaired by Maulana M.M. Hanif Laskar, Coordinator for Northeast India, MSMEPCI, and graced by Mowsam Hazarika, Agricultural Advisor, Northeast India, MSMEPCI, highlighted the crucial role of MSMEs in driving economic growth in the region.
The meeting saw active participation from representatives across the Northeast, who shared their perspectives and discussed strategies for regional development. With the government’s efforts to promote entrepreneurship and sustainable development, the MSME sector is expected to play a vital role in driving economic growth in Northeast India.
In a related development, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises has been working to promote entrepreneurship in the North East Region through various schemes, including the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI).
