GUWAHATI: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commissioned a 306.9 KWp solar power plant at the Uzanbazar Water Treatment Plant in Guwahati. The plant was officially inaugurated in a ceremony led by the General Manager of NFR, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava. This state-of-the-art solar installation, developed under the Environment and Housekeeping Management (EnHM) fund, is designed to generate an average of 928 units of electricity daily, resulting in estimated annual savings of Rs. 30 lakhs, significantly reducing operational energy costs. The solar system comprises mono crystalline solar modules that use 558 solar module plates, each rated at 550 Wp capacity, and is backed by eight Luminous inverters with a combined inverter capacity of 315 KVA.
The total project, costing Rs. 2.48 crore, was completed on March 7, 2025. Designed to power critical operations at the Uzan Bazar Water Treatment Plant, the system includes a comprehensive electrical network that extends to barges and jetties, ensuring seamless energy distribution and operational efficiency.
The event was attended by Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding Division, Samir Lohani, and Principal Chief Electrical Engineer of NFR, Sandeep Kumar, stated a press release.
