Guwahati: Panic gripped the Eleven Mile area in Jorabat on Monday after a petrol-laden tanker overturned and caught fire on National Highway 27. The tanker, bearing registration number MZ 01 AA 9268, was heading from Guwahati towards Upper Assam when the driver reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to skid and overturn.

Soon after the accident, flames engulfed the vehicle, causing massive panic among local residents and commuters. Vehicular movement along the busy highway came to a complete halt as thick plumes of smoke rose from the blaze.

Although fire tenders arrived after a delay, more than eight fire engines from Guwahati and Sonapur were pressed into action to douse the flames. Despite their efforts, the petrol-filled tanker was completely gutted in the fire.
