
Guwahati: The Professor Sarat Mahanta Foundation, in collaboration with Royal Global University, Guwahati, will organise the 10th Professor Sarat Mahanta Memorial Lecture on May 1, to mark the birth anniversary of the renowned educationist, social worker, and leading advocate of human rights, Professor Sarat Mahanta.
Professor Sarat Mahanta was born on May 1, 1937, in Nazira, Sivasagar district, into a cultured family. He retired as Head of the History Department after teaching at Sivasagar College for more than 33 years and served as an Honorary Member of the Assam State Human Rights Commission for four years. He was also the Xatradhikar of Bareghar Satra and the Chief Advisor of the Sivasagar Press Club until his death. Additionally, he worked as a journalist for more than two decades, writing many informative and thought-provoking essays, along with several notable books.
The 10th Professor Sarat Mahanta Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Akshat Gupta, a prominent writer, poet, songwriter, and leading inspirational speaker, best known for ‘The Hidden Hindu’. The lecture will take place at the Royal Global University Hall, Guwahati, on May 1 at 4 pm. Internationally renowned speaker Akshat Gupta will deliver the keynote address on “Rediscovering Our Roots: The Relevance of Hindu Mythology in Modern Times”. The lecture will be officially inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, a press release said.
