Guwahati Police Arrest Notorious Drug Peddler, Seize 20.6 Kg of Ganja

Guwahati Police arrested drug peddler Samulya Das, seizing 20.6 kg of ganja in a raid at Lokhra. A mobile phone and vehicle linked to illegal activities were also recovered.

GUWAHATI: In an operation led by the East Guwahati Police Department, a team from Basistha Police Station arrested Samulya Das, a notorious drug peddler from Lakhipur, on charges of illegal drug possession and trafficking. The team raided a hideout in Lokhra, where they discovered a substantial stash of drugs. A total of 20.6 kilograms of Ganja was seized from the 38-year-old suspect's possession, marking a significant recovery in the fight against drug-related crimes in the region.

In addition to the drugs, the authorities also recovered a mobile phone and a vehicle (AS01QC1090), which are believed to be connected to the illegal activities. The East Guwahati Police Department  team’s swift action has further disrupted the operations of drug traffickers in the area. Legal action has been initiated against Samulya Das, and further investigations are underway.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, in a major effort to fight illegal drug trafficking, police had carried out an operation at Powamara under Karimganj Police Station in Assam, where they had seized 6.2 kg of ganja (cannabis). The operation had been carried out based on reliable information, and one person had been arrested in connection.

In another similar incident, on January 27, the Government Railway Police (GRP) seized 9 kilograms of suspected ganja from two passengers on the New Delhi Rajdhani Express (Train No. 12423 DN). The operation took place at Guwahati Railway Station’s Platform No. 1 during a routine inspection around 7:40 am.
