GUWAHATI: In a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday night, Guwahati police shot and injured a notorious criminal, Jewel Khan, while he was trying to escape after being arrested for theft. The incident took place at Bonphul Nagar when the police caught him stealing a woman's bag. When the police intervened, he allegedly brandished sharp weapons in a bid to avoid arrest.

The police immediately took Khan to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical treatment after the shooting. Mrinal Deka, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), said that Khan is a habitual offender with a history of various thefts, including vehicle and chain thefts. During a subsequent raid at Khan's residence on Navjyoti Path, Sijubari, authorities discovered two stolen ATM cards and an antique scooter.

Khan had previously managed to escape from police custody by fleeing through a bathroom window. Following this incident, law enforcement launched a search operation that led to an encounter in the Hatigaon area. The situation became worse when Khan tried to attack an officer, and the police opened fire at him.

The criminal activities of Khan have made him a notorious figure to the local police. The record shows a pattern of offenses that have tormented the community. The police are still investigating the extent of his criminal network and are working towards ensuring that he faces appropriate legal consequences for his actions.
