Guwahati: In a move aimed at strengthening the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Assam, the State government has appointed key officials to lead the SDG initiatives within the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department.
In accordance with the Transportation and Development Department’s directive and following instructions from the Chief Secretary during the SDG review meeting held on March 6, the Governor has approved the appointment of Achitra Sonowal, Joint Secretary P&RD, as the Nodal Officer for SDGs. Alongside him, Susmita Sarma, Under Secretary P&RD, has been named the assisting officer to the nodal officer.
The appointed officials will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth implementation of SDG-related activities within the department. Sonowal will oversee all SDG index-related work, coordinate closely with the Transportation and Development Department, and represent the department in SDG review meetings with all necessary data and reports.
Sarma, in her assisting role, will be responsible for participating in SDG-related workshops, training sessions, and conferences—both within and outside the state—irrespective of her official rank.
