Guwahati: As the nation gears up to mark the 79th Independence Day, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and spirited celebration in Guwahati. A high-level preparatory meeting was held on Friday at the playground of the College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, the main venue for this year’s city event.
The meeting, chaired by Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan, saw the participation of top officials from various departments including police, military, paramilitary, fire and emergency services, and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation. Discussions centered around crucial aspects such as security arrangements, traffic management, logistics, and coordination among stakeholders.
Among the key attendees were Joint Commissioner of Police Ankur Jain, DCP (Intelligence) Harekrishna Nath, DCP (Security) Dhruba Bora, and DCP (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Bora. Senior officials from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Circle Officers of Dispur and Jalukbari, and representatives from other concerned departments also attended the review.
The administration underscored the importance of inter-departmental synergy to ensure the celebration proceeds without a hitch while embodying the spirit of patriotism and unity.
The main Independence Day function will be held at the Khanapara ground with participation from government departments, school children, and cultural troupes. Authorities have assured that robust security and public safety measures will be in place for the event.
