Guwahati: Protest Erupts At Jalukbari Following Fatal School Bus Accident

GUWAHATI: A massive protest took place on National Highway 27 in Jalukbari, Guwahati this morning after a tragic road accident last Friday. The accident, which involved a school bus, caused the death of Prafulla Das, a local man, and left three students injured.

Outraged by the incident, hundreds of local residents filled the streets, blocking the highway and demanding accountability for the accident. They also voiced their frustration with the administration and traffic police, blaming them for not doing enough to keep the roads safe.

The protest caused a huge traffic jam on the highway, making it difficult for people to get through and affecting transport services. Authorities had to send in forces to control the situation and try to negotiate with the protesters. We’re waiting for more updates as things unfold.

Meanwhile, earlier last year, a tragic road accident on the NH-17 in the Bongaigaon district of Assam claimed the lives of a father and his daughter on November 22.

The incident happened close to Nityabazar, Talguri, where witnesses said that the bus driver's careless driving was the reason why school teacher Nasir Ahmed was fatally struck as he was driving his daughter, Shanaz Ahmed, to school in Bahalpur.

Both Nasir and Shanaz Ahmed died on the spot, sending the local community into mourning. The incident therefore sparked considerable unrest in the area as enraged residents took to the highway in protest.

The enraged crowd blocked traffic, then ended up setting the bus on fire. The situation grew tense and hardly improved on the highway. Police arrived to quell the ensuing chaos while the tension continued to mount.
