Guwahati: City residents flocked to popular picnic destinations to celebrate the year-ender and welcome the approaching New Year. Scenic spots such as Hatisila, Chandrapur, and Choonsali along the Brahmaputra bustled with activity as families and friends enjoyed music, dance, and the pleasant winter sunshine.

A resident named Kalyan Baruah, who spent the day at Chandrapur with his family, said, “The holiday season and year-end gatherings offer a wonderful chance to connect with loved ones and appreciate nature. I urge everyone to maintain cleanliness and avoid littering these beautiful locations.”

In light of the holiday rush, authorities have intensified efforts to ensure public safety. The state transport department has rolled out awareness drives aimed at curbing drunken driving, over speeding, and other traffic violations, which are common during festive celebrations.

Kamrup (Metro) District Transport Officer (DTO) Himangshu Das outlined the department’s initiatives and said, “We are actively issuing advisories and collaborating with unions to raise awareness about road safety. Our enforcement teams are on the roads, closely monitoring vehicles to prevent violations of traffic rules.”

To further strengthen safety protocols, the transport department plans to introduce personalized safety messages for drivers, stressing cautious driving, particularly during foggy winter conditions when visibility is reduced. As the festive season continues, the authorities urged the citizens to celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety to ensure that the celebrations conclude on a joyful and secure note.
