Guwahati: The Sports Authority of India (SAI), under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, marked a significant milestone on Sunday as the ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative celebrated its 24th successful edition with a special nationwide collaboration with journalists and media professionals.

Launched on December 17, 2024 by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ campaign is part of the broader Fit India Movement, aimed at promoting cycling as a sustainable and accessible fitness activity for people of all age groups. Since its inception, the initiative has witnessed enthusiastic participation across the country, transforming into a vibrant mass movement.

In Guwahati, the SAI Regional Centre hosted a spirited event that saw the active participation of Journalists and Media persons, alongside officers from the Border Security Force (BSF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The event also featured an anti-tobacco awareness campaign conducted by Pathik, a local NGO committed to public health awareness.

The cycling rally was ceremoniously flagged off by president of Gauhati Press Club Sushmita Goswami in the august presence of Additional Director General of Press Information Bureau (North East Zone) Kripa Shankar Yadav, Second-in-Command of BSF Shailesh Rana,  and Second-in-Command of NDRF Kuldeep Sharma. The event also featured vibrant group performances of patriotic songs by artistes from the Central Bureau of Communication, adding a cultural dimension to the fitness campaign. (PIB)
