Guwahati: A state-level workshop aimed at raising awareness about the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 was organized on Friday at the BJP Assam Pradesh State Headquarters in Guwahati. The event witnessed the participation of prominent BJP leaders and stakeholders from across the state. Addressing a press conference after the workshop, BJP national secretary Anil Anthony clarified the provisions of the newly amended Act and the party’s intent behind it.
Anil Anthony stated that properties under the Waqf Board, valued at over Rs. 10 lakh crore, will now be mandatorily registered online within six months. He said this move would usher in a new era of transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties. He accused the opposition, especially the Congress party, of misleading the public on the issue. “Congress has long relied on divisive communal politics. Their current stance is just another attempt to misinform and polarize the public,” he alleged.
Highlighting the BJP-led government’s past reforms, he referred to the abolition of Triple Talaq, noting that it has been significantly beneficial for Muslim women. “The abolition of Triple Talaq empowered countless Muslim women, allowing them to live with dignity and security,” he said.
During the workshop State BJP president Dilip Saikia, who was part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that reviewed the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, said the legislation had undergone extensive discussions, including 14.5 hours of deliberations in the Lok Sabha. He pointed out that the committee had received around 97 lakh letters supporting amendments to the bill, reflecting massive public support.
“The Waqf Amendment Act 2025 brings long-overdue reforms in the management and regulation of Waqf properties. It ensures that these properties are not misused and are utilized for the welfare of society, particularly for education and healthcare in the minority community,” Saikia stated.
He emphasized that the Act aims to curb corruption, increase accountability in Waqf institutions, and act as a tool for societal upliftment, especially for the marginalized sections of the Muslim community.
The BJP leadership reiterated that the party’s broader vision of legislative reforms is rooted in principles of equity, transparency, and social justice. Nagaon MLA Rupak Sharma was also present at the occasion.
