Guwahati: The District Water and Sanitation Committee (DWSC), Kamrup Metropolitan, organized the Swachhata Award 2025 ceremony on August 2 to recognize exceptional contributions made between March and June 2025 under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Gramin (SBM-G). The event celebrated the tireless efforts of grassroots workers and field-level functionaries who have played a pivotal role in driving sanitation and hygiene initiatives in the district.
Held under the banner of SBM-G, the Swachhata Award is part of a newly introduced monthly recognition system aimed at encouraging sustained excellence in rural sanitation efforts. Awards were presented across four key categories:
n Best-performing committee for effectively managing the Community Management Support Centre (CMSC).
n Community WASH Coordinator for outstanding coordination in water, sanitation, and hygiene.
n Self-Help Group (SHG) involved in the operation and maintenance of Solid Waste Management (SWM) assets.
n Swachhata Doot for exemplary efforts in spreading sanitation awareness.
The awards were handed over by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan, Casio Karan Pegu, in the presence of the Superintending Engineer of Guwahati Circle (PHE), the Executive Engineer of Guwahati Division-I (PHE), and other dignitaries from the Public Health Engineering Department.
Speaking at the event, officials lauded the commitment of community workers and emphasized the importance of continuous grassroots engagement in sustaining the gains of SBM-G. “Recognizing the people working at the ground level ensures motivation and accountability in our sanitation mission,” said an official from the DWSC.
The ceremony marked a renewed push toward community-led sanitation efforts and reinforced the district’s commitment to achieving holistic cleanliness and hygiene standards in rural and semi-urban areas.
