Guwahati Teenager Murder Accused Confessed of Killing Her, Says It Was a Quarrel Over Cigarette

GUWAHATI: The murder accused of Dimpal Umawat, a Guwahati teenager, reportedly, confessed to killing the teenage girl during the police interrogation.

The mutilated body of Dimpal was recovered on Wednesday at her home in the Uzanbazzar area of Guwahati covered in a pool of blood.

Police launched an investigation into the sensational murder of the girl and arrested her cousin brother Ashik Gupta yesterday. Police sources revealed that Ashik confessed to killing her sister following a quarrel between them over cigarette consumption.

The accused claimed that Dimpal took the cigarette and when he resisted her from doing so she started a quarrel with him. Then, he attacked and murdered her. However, Dimpal's father claimed that her daughter never consumed cigarettes and said that Asik's statement is misleading. " His statement is misleading. My daughter never took a puff on a cigarette. He is like a poisonous snake," the father alleged. He also alleged that Ashik often forcefully took his daughter's mobile phone.

Police sources also said that Ashik after killing Dimpal tried to mislead police by staging a drama. " He tried to give the crime the shape of a dacoity incident. He unlocked two almirahs of Dimpal's family. Dimpal's father called up his daughter at around 10-15 am in the day she was murdered", sources added.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother also alleged that her daughter was murdered by Ashik with a grinder stone. The accused was her nephew. "He killed my daughter. He is like a snake which we reared in our home,'' the woman told media. The family, originally from Rajasthan, lives in a rented house in Uzan Bazar for the last ten years. Dimpal was murdered when her parents were not in the home.
