Guwahati: In a series of successful operations, teams of the city police have intensified their crackdown on theft and illegal liquor trade across the city.

In the first incident, a team from Basistha Police Station arrested Raja Das (25) of Jorhat after he was caught with stolen cosmetic items at Lal Mati. The stolen goods were traced back to Reliance Market in Lalmati. Legal action has been initiated in connection with the theft.

In another operation, a team from Sonapur Police Station raided the residence-cum-shop of Anjan Taro (40) of Chamata Pathar and recovered a massive stockpile of illicit Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). Taro failed to produce any valid documents for the consignment. Initial investigation suggests that the liquor was stolen and being illegally sold in the area for wrongful gains.

The seized items include 19 cartons and 175 bottles of IMFL across various brands, including Kingfisher, Tuborg, Simba, Royal Stag, Imperial Blue, McDowell’s No.1, Iconic White, Magic Moments, RC, and Breezer. Legal proceedings have been initiated.
