Guwahati: In a series of coordinated operations across the city, various units of Guwahati Police have made significant breakthroughs in tackling crimes related to vehicle theft, mobile phone theft, and narcotics trafficking.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team from Basistha Police Station apprehended a notorious bike lifter, Nayan Jyoti Tumung (25) of Botakuchi, Sonapur. He was arrested from the Khanapara area. During the operation, a stolen Honda Activa (bearing registration number AS01DT2892) was recovered. The scooter had been reported missing from the New Market area of Sonapur. Legal action has been initiated against the accused.
In another successful operation, a team from Gorchuk Police Station arrested Rehana Parvin (27), a resident of Mukalmua in Nalbari district. She was caught red-handed in possession of 14 stolen mobile handsets and house-breaking tools. Legal action has been initiated.
Separately, a team from Dispur Police Station recovered a stolen Bolero (registration number AS12W6888) from the Maligaon area. The vehicle had been reported stolen from the Khanapara locality. Investigation into the case is ongoing.
In another operation, a joint team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Noonmati Police Station raided a residence at Salbari, Pancha Tirtha Path. The operation led to the arrest of two individuals from Mizoram—Ador Chakma (22) and Himan Chakma (31). During the raid, the team seized 95.270 grams of heroin stored in 72 vials, a pouch containing an additional 4.520 grams of heroin, two mobile phones (an Infinix and an iPhone 11), and a Yamaha R15 motorcycle (registration number AS01FV1744). Legal proceedings have been initiated in this case as well.
