GUWAHATI: In a move aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring uniformity across the state, and reinstating a distinct identity for the city's traffic personnel, the Guwahati Traffic Police will resume wearing the white-coloured uniform from August 16, 2025. The decision follows a comprehensive review of functional requirements, field conditions, and feedback from stakeholders, including police personnel, road safety experts, and members of the public.

The white uniform – long associated with traffic management in Guwahati – has historically symbolised approachability, visibility, and a professional image on the roads. The Guwahati Traffic Police remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and service to the public.

Citizens are encouraged to extend their co-operation to traffic personnel as the city continues its efforts to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and promote orderly traffic movement.

Meanwhile, in a bid to ensure smooth traffic movement and reduce public inconvenience, the Guwahati Police have issued a directive banning all types of processions, rallies, runs, marathons, and walkathons within the city limits with immediate effect.

The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, highlights that such events often result in major traffic snarls, delaying emergency services and impacting public safety. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), Imdad Ali, who promulgated the order, emphasised that the step is necessary to manage road usage efficiently and maintain uninterrupted commutes for citizens.
