Guwahati: With monsoon clouds settling over Assam and Guwahati witnessing increased rainfall, the Transport Department has issued a public advisory urging commuters and vehicle owners to take extra precautions on the roads. The department cited the risks of heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and waterlogging as key safety concerns during this season. ““Gautam Das, a senior Transport Department official, warned that reduced visibility caused by sudden rain or fog often leads to an increase in road accidents. “Drivers must reduce speed, maintain adequate distance, and keep headlights on even during the day,” he said, urging the public to avoid driving through flooded stretches whenever possible.““The department has outlined key maintenance checks to make vehicles monsoon-ready. These include ensuring proper tyre tread depth, full fuel tanks, functional wipers and lights, and intact brake systems. Faulty wiring should be addressed promptly, and windshield fluid levels must be monitored regularly. ““Das also reminded commuters of the importance of carrying valid vehicle documents—including driving licenses, insurance papers, and pollution certificates. “Incomplete documentation can result in insurance claims being denied in case of monsoon-related damages,” he noted.
