Guwahati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested two more individuals in connection with the recovery of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near Dispur Last Gate in Guwahati, allegedly planted by the banned ULFA (I) group as part of a larger conspiracy to trigger multiple blasts across Assam on Independence Day in 2024.
The accused, Bhargob Gogoi and Sumu Gogoi, both residents of Dibrugarh district, were found to be directly involved in the terror plot aimed at threatening the sovereignty and security of the nation, the agency said. Their arrest brings the total number of individuals held in the case (RC-03/2024/NIA-GUW) to three. The NIA had taken over the investigation from Dispur police in September 2024. Last month, the agency had filed a charge sheet against three accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.
Further investigation is underway.
