Guwahati: Lulu (Nagen) Narzary, a well-known and beloved resident of Rupnagar, Guwahati, passed away on Thursday, after a prolonged illness. Despite his health challenges, Narzary remained active in public life and continued to be a vibrant presence in his community.
Affectionately known as “Lulu” among his peers, Narzary was a prominent figure during the Assam Movement and represented a powerful voice of that transformative era. His charismatic personality and deep-rooted connection with the people earned him immense admiration across all walks of life.
A former student of Arya Vidyapeeth College, Narzary served as the vice president of the All Guwahati Students’ Union during his college days. Over the years, he remained deeply associated with numerous social and cultural organizations in Guwahati and particularly in Rupnagar. His contribution to sports, especially martial arts, also earned him recognition as a skilled practitioner and mentor.
Narzary was 61 at the time of his passing. He is survived by his son, daughter, brother, and other close family members. His last rites were performed on August 7 at the Ulubari Cremation Ground, attended by relatives, friends, and admirers.
The All Guwahati Students’ Union mourned his loss and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, remembering him as a spirited leader and a lifelong contributor to the society.
